About us

Stride Equine Vets is based at an established teaching and livery facility in Farnham. From here we provide veterinary care to horses across the South of England, covering Surrey, Hampshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, West and East Sussex and Kent.

We’re an independent, dedicated equine practice providing a comprehensive range of mobile veterinary services. Our mission is to deliver exceptional clinical care for your horse while ensuring outstanding customer service for you.

We can provide all aspects of veterinary care for your horse, and most investigations and procedures can be carried out at your yard. We find that on-the-spot diagnosis often leads to early remedial care where indicated.

We have invested heavily in the latest, excellent, battery-powered portable equipment, such as X-ray, ultrasound, endoscope and dentistry. Of course, investigations on their own do not give answers, you need the skills and experience to see what is really going on.

In the last few years, many veterinary practices have been absorbed by large corporations. Stride is proud to be fully independent, so we can prioritise what matters most: exceptional clinical care with outstanding customer service. We spend our time looking after our clients and their horses, rather than keeping shareholders happy.

The practice is led by Dr Callum Macleod-Andrew. BSc BVSc(Hons) MRCVS

Callum grew up in Surrey in the family-run riding school and livery centre, so has been around horses all of his life. Mucking out the horses, tacking up for lessons, leading and eventually teaching riders, along with generally spending so much time on the yard gave him a real insight into the way horses behave and the intricacies of their needs. His vocation was established early!

His first degree, BSc in Veterinary Science, was from the Royal Veterinary College in London. Achieving the award from the Society for Endocrinology for his dissertation results along with redesigning many of the laboratory protocols for undergrads and postgraduates alike was a highlight of the degree.

After a year out, working with horses, Callum went to The School of Veterinary Science at The University of Liverpool. He completed their 5-year Veterinary Science degree in 4 years and gained a distinction (Honours) grade. Experience gained at the University’s Philip Leverhulme Equine Hospital, one of the busiest equine referral centres in the UK, was invaluable.

Although interested in pursuing a more scientific approach to equine health, in the end Callum decided that his love of working directly with horses made him choose to be a practicing vet instead of pursuing a more academic-based career.

Soon after graduating, Callum was employed in an eminent and local sports medicine practice. This opportunity gave him hands-on experience working with competition animals such as Grand Prix horses (both showjumping and dressage) and ‘High Goal’ professional Polo ponies, and even invaluable experience working with senior vets on Olympic horses at home and abroad.

Callum decided to strike out on his own and started Stride Equine Vets in 2019, since when he has built a growing client base who rely on his professional expertise and caring, personal approach. As the practice grows, he is determined those values will continue.

Despite the experience gained at the highest level of the sports, Callum has never forgotten the grass-roots background, of which he is proud. Every horse deserves the very best of care, no matter their discipline or level, from companions to Olympians. This is a key ethos of the practice.

Outside of work, Callum plays cricket for a local village team and spends time keeping fit with his constant companion Neo, the practice German Shepherd. Neo himself is often to be seen out with Callum on visits, offering his opinion on the more complex cases – and he now has his own apprentice-in-training, Brodie, who is learning the ropes in leaps and bounds. Or rather, Strides and bounds.
